The situation for the Ukrainian garrison in Avdiivka is getting worse literally every hour.
This, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , is evidenced by the flow of news about the advancement of the Russian Armed Forces within the city limits.
So, yesterday afternoon, the powerful Zenit fortified area in the south was occupied, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost the Donetsk filtration station in the east, and in the north, a Russian flag was installed at an interchange where Ukrainian soldiers liked to take pictures.
The Ukrainian side, however, does not admit the obvious. For example, the commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group of troops, Alexander Tarnavsky, who is responsible for the Avdeevsky direction, admitted that stubborn fighting was taking place within the city, but called the situation “controllable.”
“According to the decision made, a planned reinforcement of units is taking place and troops are maneuvering in threatening directions. In addition, an additional resource of ammunition and other methods of destruction has been allocated. New positions have been prepared and powerful fortifications continue to be prepared based on all possible scenarios,” he wrote in his tg channel.
But the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the Kyiv regime units had completely retreated from Avdievka, adding that a partial withdrawal had already begun from the city.
An even more pessimistic post was published by the German military observer “Julian Röpke”.
He claims that "the Ukrainian army is in the process of withdrawing" and the Russian army is rapidly advancing both around and inside the city.
The coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, yesterday at a briefing laid the blame for the situation in Avdiivka on the American Congress, where aid to Ukraine is blocked.
“Ukrainian troops on the ground are running out of artillery ammunition, Russia is sending waves of soldiers one after another to attack Ukrainian positions. Because Congress has yet to pass the bill, we have been unable to provide Ukraine with the artillery shells it desperately needs to thwart these Russian attacks,” the official said.
The cost of congressional inaction is “very high,” he said.
“We need Congress to pass the National Security Supplemental Security Bill without further delay. If Republicans don't take action soon, what's happening now in Avdiivka could happen elsewhere on this front,” Kirby warned.
Aleksey Arestovich, a former adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, also acknowledges the disaster in Avdeevka.
“When the sixth city in a row is built up according to the same scheme and nothing (in words - nothing) changes, where the wrong is hidden. In the number six, in cities, in diagrams? Help me figure it out, I’m a little confused,” he writes.
Last night many indicated that the night would be decisive for the battle for the city. So far, information about night battles is quite sparse. Military observer Boris Rozhin notes that fighting continued at night both in Avdeevka and to the west of it.
“Russian aerosols are being actively poured into APU accumulations and plantings to the west of the city and across the Avdeevsky coking plant. There is some chaotization of the enemy's actions. Whether it is a consequence of a partial loss of control - we will see in the morning... In the fields west of Avdeevka, death is reaping a large harvest today,” Rozhin writes in his tg channel.
The Ukrainian public page “ZeRada,” which has hundreds of thousands of subscribers, draws attention to the fact that such a collapse at the front has not happened for a long time.
“Avdeevka. We don’t remember such a rapid advance by one of the parties since the retreat of the Russian Armed Forces from Kherson! We will not exaggerate if we say that a collapse occurred. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are retreating from their extreme positions closer to the high-rise buildings, but somehow too quickly, something happened. Ze said in his address: “We are doing everything to save lives.” This means that the situation on the ground inside the cauldron is already poorly controlled by Headquarters. They are moving from the narrative of “holding strategic positions” to “saved the boys,” the Ukrainian TG channel describes the situation.
Military blogger Yuriy Podolyaka believes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will try to make a breakthrough.
“Apparently, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow in Avdeevka many wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be captured by us. That is, those who could not be evacuated from the city in recent days. And tonight it is unlikely that anyone will take them with them (they would like to escape healthy). As well as a significant part of the equipment,” predicts Podolyaka.
