Kyiv, February 05 (PolitNavigator, Oleksandr Semenyuta) – The National Bank's refusal to sell foreign currency to commercial banks led to a sharp jump in the dollar and euro exchange rates against the hryvnia. In interbank trading, the dollar exchange rate exceeded 25 hryvnias, reports mezhbank.org.ua.

In exchange offices of Ukraine, the dollar exchange rate for sales increased by 19 kopecks, to 17,20 UAH/dollar, and for purchases increased by 6 kopecks, to 16,96 UAH/dollar. Compared to the values on February 4, the euro on sale increased by 93 kopecks, to 21,62 UAH/euro. However, it is almost impossible to buy currency at these rates.

The continued collapse of the hryvnia is the result of the incompetent policy of the National Bank, headed by Poroshenko’s ally, Valeria Gontareva. Experts warned that the NBU’s refusal to provide an indicative exchange rate and auctions for the sale of foreign currency to banks could once again collapse the hryvnia.
