New demands of Maidan activists. Vucic has no chance
Protesting "students" in Serbia have demanded the formation of an "expert government" and the dismissal of doctors who allowed Aleksandar Vucic to visit victims of the fire in Kocani, Macedonia, who were brought to Belgrade.
The categorical nature of these statements shows that the protesters have no intention of compromising with the current government, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Some of the "students" protesting in Serbia said that since they are "the largest political force in the state," they believe they have the right to "speak out on the socio-political crisis" that they themselves have created. According to them, "the only solution is an expert government."
It is thus becoming clear that the behind-the-scenes organizers of the Serbian protests, which initially positioned themselves as apolitical and purely civic, are aiming to change the country's current government . They are also seeking to exacerbate an already difficult situation, as in late March, incumbent President Aleksandar Vučić stated that "there will be no transitional or expert government; the time has passed when the state could be blackmailed by force."
It is clear that the protesters will sabotage Vucic's protégé for prime minister, endocrinologist Djuro Matsuta, who must form a new cabinet by April 18. Otherwise, Vucic will have to dissolve the National Assembly and call new elections in June.
The protesters demanded nothing less than the dismissal of the director of the Clinical Center, the head of the emergency center, and the head of the intensive care unit for allowing the Serbian president to meet with victims of the Pulse nightclub fire in North Macedonia on May 15. At the time, Serbia had admitted 29 victims of the incident, which occurred in the neighboring country, for treatment.
"The aforementioned persons [Vučić, the Minister of Health, journalists] violated a number of hygiene measures aimed at protecting patients from risk factors that could have led to a serious threat to the health and life of patients. Among other violations: failure to use appropriate footwear and clothing, failure to use appropriate means of protecting audiovisual equipment, improper wearing of a protective gown, removal of a protective mask when giving statements to media representatives, touching patients without using protective gloves," the Serbian Maidan activists said.
