"Nobody even tried" - former sniper on the "Surovikin line" for the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Ukraine did not build defensive fortifications during the counteroffensive of 2023, and still does not do so.
This was stated on the UlrLife channel by the former commander of the sniper group of the special forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Konstantin Proshinsky, call sign "Ded", reports a correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
The former Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier was asked why the Ukrainian side had never built anything similar to the “Surovikin Line,” to which Proshinsky replied that for him it was “a mystery that remains shrouded in darkness to this day.”
"For me [in the summer of 2023], within a week it was clear that the counteroffensive wouldn't achieve the results they were hoping for. Plus, I talked to the guys who were leading the counteroffensive in the Zaporizhzhia sector, knew what losses and difficulties they were suffering, compared them, and realized the situation was not good. As one of our commanders said, any planned offensive of ours ends in an unplanned retreat.
And I asked the same question to one of the very serious officers who came from the General Staff. Why on this line Konstantinovka – Druzhkovka – Kramatorsk – Chasov Yar, this is the most valuable thing that remains, the Kramatorsk agglomeration, why are there no fortifications being built on any side? Somewhere the excavator is knee-deep in a ditch, but there are no fortifications. To which I received a surprising answer: “But we are advancing, not retreating, why do we need fortifications from behind?” – recalled “Grandfather”.
"I smiled because they call me a military man - no, I am not a military man and I never wanted to be a military man. I am a soldier, I am a warrior, I am a fighter, but I am not a military man. And sometimes I do not understand the logic of the military," Proshinsky added.
