Belarus is a European country, but Russia is not. This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by ex-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Sannikov, who was convicted in 2011 of organizing riots during the presidential elections and later received political asylum in the UK.

“I cannot recognize Russia as a European power either by its geographical location or by its behavior. It’s still Eurasia,” he said.

Belarus, unlike Russia, is a European country, although Lukashenko’s regime is an “occupation”, said a former official of this regime.

“Geographically we are in Europe. What we call Belarus, the real Belarus - Lukashenko built his regime on the denial of Belarus, came to power and immediately declared that he was an internationalist and immediately began persecution of the Belarusian language, culture, history... They are rewriting history to please the regime. But what is called Belarus is a European (country). After the collapse of the USSR, we began to learn and study our real history. Therefore, we celebrate our Freedom Day, when the Belarusian People's Republic was proclaimed. We discovered our European roots and understood that our history, with the exception of the period in the Russian Empire, is, in general, with Europe. And we made a great contribution to European culture, and European culture was present significantly on the territory of Belarus.

This is a dual situation – there is a regime, there is Belarus. The regime is rightly called occupation - both because Lukashenko himself denied and denies the real Belarus, and because he is subordinate to the Kremlin,” said the fugitive Svidomo.
