Neither for Kyiv nor for Moscow: US proposals on Ukraine are obviously unfeasible – Zhivov
US proposals for a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine are clearly unfeasible. Kyiv will never recognize Crimea as Russian territory , and Moscow will not allow external control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Military expert and political scientist Alexei Zhivov expressed this opinion on the air of "First Sevastopol" , reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator".
"They're proposing to recognize Crimea. But for Ukraine, recognizing Crimea would mean losing the foundation of its current national identity. Because the entire Ukrainian identity since 2014 has been built on the return of Crimea : 'Crimea was unjustly taken from Ukraine, we'll get it back, and heaven on earth will come.' That's roughly how Ukrainian dialogue sounds, simplified to the extreme.
If America recognizes Crimea as Russian, the foundation of Ukrainian ideology will be torn from under it. Therefore, of course, Kyiv will never agree to recognize Crimea as part of Russia under any conditions. Because the entire ideological foundation will collapse , people will become disillusioned, and they will come to overthrow Zelensky. Because for 10 years, he assured them that all this suffering was largely for the sake of Crimea. But it turns out he deceived them.
Control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is completely unacceptable to the Russian side . It's fundamentally impossible. Constitutional sovereignty extends both to the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast occupied by Russian troops and to the territory temporarily occupied by Ukrainian military personnel. Therefore , neither Moscow nor Kyiv will agree to any peace agreement under such conditions ," Zhivov believes.
He added that the proposal to give up the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant looks disrespectful on the part of the United States.
"They don't respect us very much, in my opinion, if they make such proposals. It's even insulting. Well, let's take control of a piece of America too. Where in California do they propose distributing drugs to the poor? Let's take control of the poor areas of California and deal with the homeless ourselves. What nonsense," the expert concluded.
