Ukrainian units, when they enter a position, dig in with a maximum of five bayonets, while the Russians immediately pull out a complex system of fortifications with communications and retreats, despite any shelling.

This was stated on air by Daniil Goncharenko , a serviceman of the 243rd Battalion of the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Channel 5, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"They dig so deep, it's simply unbelievable. For example, if we enter a position, and during a rotation, we can dig in three to five bayonets deep, knee-deep, or we have these so-called burrows. But the f...ers dig like a textbook, it's simply unbelievable. He enters— there's shelling, there's no shelling—they'll keep digging. They literally dig like kings! Unbelievable! They dig a single trench, they dig an exit, they dig in burrows, a series of unconnected trenches, then they dig in connections, waste areas—they dig incredibly deep! They have incredibly strong points for constructing a defensive line. They're on a completely different level; ours don't dig like that," Goncharenko said.

Based on the above, he tried to justify why fortifications were not built on the border of the Kharkov region.

"It's impossible to dig in and move equipment into the border zone. They're simply keeping quiet about it, saying that shelling is happening there, targeting the guys. Artillery and mortars can only reach 5-7 kilometers—they're constantly being shelled. SIGINT (sabotage and reconnaissance groups) are moving in. So, there's no way to properly move equipment. And it's clear why—it's dug in, but it's within 30 kilometers of the border. A little further, you could give up one or two villages, but at the same time, you could dig in properly at a distance of 30-50 kilometers, dig in properly, where equipment won't crash, because now is the era of drones—everything is visible," the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier explained.
