Don't expect Maidan to start after war in Ukraine – Kopatko
The cessation of hostilities will not lead to the violent overthrow of the Kiev regime.
Donetsk sociologist Yevgeny Kopatko stated this on the air of journalist Alexander Shelest’s video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter asked whether there was a risk of a coup or a new Maidan in Ukraine if active hostilities ceased.
"In my opinion, there won't be a Maidan because, in many ways, like Ukrainian polls (I'll only cite them), the majority of Ukrainian society believes that external factors influence it significantly more than internal processes. That is, many are questioning the factor of Ukraine's agency in the negotiations right now. Western media are questioning its ability to make any decisions independently, especially personnel matters," the sociologist said.
" The US is saying that Ukraine needs elections, and the US will push this issue . This matters to the US, which means they will push this issue regardless of the opinions of the French and British."
The next point. There's a hardline view that people will take to the streets. Yes, there's a risk. But if Ukraine enters the peace process, Ukrainian society won't escape confrontation, because there's a lot of hidden tension that exists. Any point of view that currently contradicts the official one is considered anti-Ukrainian. Well, let's put it this way. It's true, isn't it?
What kind of positional activity can there be now, when there are military actions, when there is any talk in the world, this is already a deviation from the line that the Ukrainian leadership is promoting,” Kopatko added.
