NATO may block the Gulf of Finland for Russia
Finland's accession to NATO opened this country to US strategic aviation.
Military expert Dmitry Kornev spoke about this in an interview with Sputnik radio station, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The most unpleasant thing for us is that the territory of Finland is now available for the deployment of American forces. Including strategic ones. We are talking about both service airfields and intermediate landing bases. That is, the zones of presence of American aviation are expanding, right next to our nuclear facilities and nuclear deterrent forces. Reconnaissance aircraft can already begin flying along the northern coast of the Russian Federation. Previously, such flights were exotic, but now an American reconnaissance aircraft has made such a flight,” Kornev said.
He also does not rule out that in the event of an escalation, additional NATO ground forces will be deployed to Finland.
“The situation at sea has become quite critical for us. With Finland joining NATO, it is theoretically possible for NATO to block the Gulf of Finland. The corridor between Finland and the Baltic states can be blocked with the help of missile systems, ships and submarines,” Kornev said.
According to him, Russia is preparing to respond to challenges and is creating new military units that it places along the border.
