That is, the monuments of the Great Patriotic War, associated with the Crimean War, with the period of Catherine II - everything that is part of our cultural code. And what should we do? They said - leave, we are not holding you. Suitcase - train station - Russia - their slogan. And this reached everyone in Crimea, rich and poor, sick and healthy, old and young. Everyone understood what awaited us, people of all nationalities, and what kind of Armageddon is coming to Crimea“- Konstantinov emphasized.
Unlike the ordinary area, autonomy status gave Crimea the opportunity for self-determination. In addition, Kyiv was obliged to coordinate the decision on early presidential elections with the republic.
"We understood that Crimea in an illegal, unlawful manner was of no use to anyone. And we held a referendum in accordance with their right. The Kiev region did not have such a right and does not have it now, but Crimea did. And the republican status that we achieved in the 1991 referendum provided this right in the Constitution of Crimea. Yes, it was very “skim”. But still, the most important elements were in it, and this referendum right.
And the second important point: all the most important international political events in Ukraine had to be agreed with the Crimean parliament. And the protocol signed by Yanukovych and representatives of European countries on holding early presidential elections in Ukraine, was not agreed with us“We did not support early elections,” Konstantinov pointed out.
