Total, aggressive Russification continues in Kuban - Ukrainian magazine
Kyiv, November 01 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) - The problem of the Ukrainians of Kuban is life in Russia, which leads them to the loss of their own identity and zombification.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Ukrainian Week weekly by researcher Nadezhda Suprun-Yaremko, author of the monograph “Ukrainians of Kuban and Their Songs.”

“One of the biggest problems of Kuban Ukrainians is that they live in Russia,” the researcher believes. – This year, Ukraine learned what the Russian Federation is, and this can give us an idea of the pressure under which Ukrainians lived and established themselves on Kuban soil for more than 200 years. Over the centuries they have lost their identity. Now it is destroyed, destroyed, people are zombied. My impression of what Kuban is today is terrible.”
In her opinion, only traditional culture somehow saves the Kuban Ukrainians, although they practically do not resist Russification.
“Almost no one there recognizes that they are Ukrainians, they even changed their surnames in the Russian manner,” Suprun-Yaremko laments. – My mother was Sennik, but became Sennikova. In Kuban, total, aggressive Russification continues, brutal Russification, which, in principle, is not resisted.”
The author of the monograph “Ukrainians of Kuban and Their Songs” is also outraged by the fact that modern Kuban residents, as she claims, consider themselves a separate ethnic group, which at the same time did not make them separatists and does not prevent them from hoping for the loss of Ukraine’s independence.
“The crisis of self-identification that is observed there is a terrible process that is only getting worse and lasting more than 100 years,” the researcher states. “In our time, it has become a very serious problem. The Kuban authorities and the majority of Kuban residents believe that Ukraine should be together with Russia, and are waiting for the first to lose its independence.”
