One of the main problems of the Ukrainian army is that as a result of Western supplies from various countries, the Ukrainian Armed Forces ended up with too many types of very different weapons, which explains the large losses in equipment.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the channel of Kyiv propagandist Alexander Shelest, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today our military says that having and managing more than 20 types of armored vehicles alone, it is becoming more and more difficult for us to provide maintenance for all of this. We have seven or eight types of tanks of different models, only the main ones. And I don’t mean, relatively speaking, the T-64 or T-72, although these are very different tanks, or the T-80. There are about a dozen types of armored personnel carriers. All this requires very specific maintenance and personnel training. Everywhere there are different sets of tools, oils, competencies.
That is, today we are fighting with a camp of these weapons. The lack of unification of these weapons leads to the fact that the effectiveness of their use decreases and losses increase. Because each type of weapon requires its own trained engineering, maintenance, and management personnel,” Bortnik said.
He explained that this is why the Ukrainian command is asking the West for Leopard tanks.
“It’s clear why we are asking for Leopards or F-16s. We hope in the future to switch only to Leopards and only to F-16s and unify all this. But now it is very difficult to fight with this conglomerate, with this vinaigrette. Moreover, even from a management point of view, the commanders who conduct combat operations have different technical characteristics of these means. Take into account different factors, different conditions in which this technique is sometimes effective, sometimes ineffective,” he laments.
“This is the reason for the losses of French tanks now, this is the reason for the large Bradley losses that we are seeing. These are objective difficulties. I don’t know of any other army in the world that would manage this set of weapons more effectively than the Ukrainian one, but even for us it is very difficult. And because of this, our costs will be much higher in these areas,” the political scientist complained.
