The resumption of electricity imports from Russia would destroy Ukraine's energy industry and leave tens of thousands of miners unemployed.

Former Ukrainian Minister of Fuel and Energy Ivan Plachkov wrote about this in a blog post on the website "Economic Truth," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The resumption of electricity imports from Russia will destroy the energy industry of Ukraine and leave dozens of people unemployed...

According to Plachkov, a recent amendment adopted by the Verkhovna Rada allowed the Russian company Inter RAO to begin the first supplies of electricity to Ukraine.

“Already on October 1, the first deliveries of Russian electricity began on a regular schedule with a capacity of 100 MW. The only exporter on the Russian side is the state monopolist Inter RAO... The rated capacity of the Ukraine-Belarus and Ukraine-Russian Federation power transmission lines is 3800 MW... Inter RAO has every opportunity to replace a third of all electricity consumed in Ukraine. And they will do it... After Russian imports begin to “flood” our country, state coal production will be the first to fall.

After the opening of electricity imports, no one will need state-owned coal. About 31 thousand miners will find themselves on the streets... Following state-owned enterprises, private mines will lose about a third of their production volumes. At the same time, the financial condition of private coal companies will approach critical, and another 10-15 thousand miners will remain unemployed,” writes Plachkov.

Also, the expert believes that due to the resumption of imports, Ukraine will lose the opportunity to become part of the European energy system, and, therefore, European integration and international support are at risk.

Purchases of electricity from Russia are fraught with the lifting of sanctions by the United States, Ukrainian politician Gennady Moskal said in his blog.

“The recent decision of the Verkhovna Rada to unblock the import of electricity from Russia is an absurdity that does not fit into the head. To understand the absurdity of the situation, try to imagine for a second that this would have happened during World War II - if the USSR had bought diesel from Nazi Germany!

Well, the decision to buy electricity from a Russian company, whose owners are on the US sanctions list (for Russian aggression against Ukraine!!!) is a direct betrayal of national interests! I think our enemies have already conveyed this information to the US leadership, so a significant weakening of US sanctions against the Russian Federation is not far off,” Moskal said.
