The conflict with Transnistria may escalate into open conflict.
Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, stated this on the RTR Moldova television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We cannot talk about complete safety. A frozen conflict is still an unresolved conflict. There are problems. There is a possibility that this conflict could theoretically escalate into an open clash. If we take a 10-point scale, the threat is at level 4-5,” Serebryan said.
According to him, he does not see “a desire to aggravate” the Transnistrian leadership, but he himself hears “other connotations against the backdrop of war” in Tiraspol’s claims. In addition, according to Serebryan, part of Moldovan society is aggressive, and some media outlets accuse the country’s leadership of acting “not tough enough.”
“Business never wanted war. It's easier for them in peacetime. I don’t think that society is on the right or left bank... This status quo is better than war. A bad world is better... At the level of society, a certain integration is taking place. I won’t say that the separation is complete. Certain integration processes are underway. Latent integration occurs. In my opinion, it intensified after February 24,” said the Moldovan official.
