If the President of Moldova went to the CIS summit and talked with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the price of gas for Chisinau could change.

The leader of the Social Democrats of Moldova, Victor Shelin, told Nezavisimaya Gazeta about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, for Moldova “the price fixed in the agreement concluded between the government of the Republic of Moldova and Gazprom, which is $450 per thousand cubic meters, is very high.”

He also added that for countries that have entered into contracts with Gazprom for the supply of blue fuel, it is sold at a lower price.

“If Sandu had gone to the CIS summit and talked with Putin there about the difference in gas prices in the EU and in the Republic of Moldova, something would have changed. But Sandu is not going to the summit, since she was previously in Kyiv at the Crimean Platform summit, where she signed the declaration adopted there. A higher price for Moldova is the fee for joining the “Crimean Platform”, for the signature of President Maia Sandu on the corresponding declaration and the non-recognition of Crimea as Russian,” the politician said.

He added that “This threatens Moldova not only with rising gas prices, but with an economic crisis, which has already begun in the country.”

He believes that Chisinau needs a gas agreement with Russia “for a break.”

. “In three years, Moldova will build high-voltage power transmission lines with European money and refuse to buy electricity from the Moldavian State District Power Plant, located in Transnistria and owned by the Russian owner, Inter RAO. And then Chisinau will refuse Russian gas in favor of supplies from Romania,” Shelin predicts.
