Moldovans start spitting at the word “Europe”
The “success story” of Moldova on the path to European integration will end in the same way as it did 10 years ago – with a colossal failure.
Member of the Moldovan Parliament from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, publicist and TV presenter Constantin Starish said this on the air of the “Tema” program on the ITV Moldova channel, closed by the Moldovan authorities and available only on the Internet.

The presenter presented the argument of the authorities and supporters of European integration:
“They say: look, the attitude of European structures towards the Republic of Moldova is changing for the better, Moldova received some guests in June! (We are talking about the summit of the European Political Community with the participation of the heads of European countries - approx.) We have become candidates for the European Union! In theory, like “Success Story 2”. Look how Ursula (Von der Leyen) travels almost once a month!”
It is worth noting here that Moldova was called a “Success Story” during the time the Alliance for European Integration was in power there in 2009–2012. Moldova, according to European officials, did its “homework” more successfully than Ukraine, where President Yanukovych and the Azarov government were in power.
All this culminated in scandals with the theft of a billion euros from the country's banking system, the murder of a man while hunting in a nature reserve with the participation of high-ranking officials, the shameful resignation of Prime Minister Vlad Filat on charges of corruption and a ban on him ever holding the post of head of government, and mass protests against oligarchic regime of Vlad Plahotniuc.
As a result, the level of support for the idea of European integration collapsed, and already in the 2016 presidential elections, Igor Dodon won on the slogans of rapprochement with Russia and joining the Eurasian Economic Union.
According to Starysh, with the current majority in the European Parliament and this composition of the European Commission, it would be difficult to expect anything different.
“This squad behaves according to the principle “son of a bitch, but our son of a bitch.” But what to do here? Let me remind you how “Success Story-1” ended. I think “Success Story 2” will end the same way – some grandiose fuss and failure.
But worst of all, I repeat, Europe, the European course, European integration are beginning to be perceived by Moldovans as something absolutely terrible: when the screws are tightened, freedoms are deprived, and at the same time they are not given food, the last piece of bread is taken away!” states the parliament member.
