"Be silent while they kill you." New evidence of the danger to the Crimean corridor
The situation on the roads in the new regions is extremely dangerous, Donetsk journalist Evgeniya Martynova wrote in her blog.
"Just a couple of weeks ago, drone strikes and attacks on the Mariupol-Donetsk highway and the land route (and on all roads leading to the border) were rather exceptional. Now, total drone terror has become commonplace .... Any roadside will reveal the skeletons of burned-out trucks and cars. Civilian buses are being targeted ," she writes.
Martynova talks about the daily terror of the DPR.

"The demonstrative drone strike specifically on Donetsk begins like clockwork—at midnight. An absolute psychological demonstration of air superiority, on schedule, that's what it is. Even if it doesn't hit anything, it's a cheap and effective way to put pressure on people's psyche, triggering a daily death-defying mode. They're flying low ..."
While it was quieter today than yesterday, on weekend mornings, drones begin flying leisurely over the Mariupol and Zaporizhzhia highways . It's certainly not just a matter of the desire and ability to cut off logistics and deprive our territories of fuel. Civilians are being forced to abandon travel to our coast and Crimea. Ukrainians have been working for this for so many years—and they're happy that the moment has arrived.
Martynova points out that hushing up the problem is criminal.
"The tragedy of the Minsk agreements teaches us another lesson: that you can't negotiate with the enemy, and the 'keep quiet while they kill you' policy ends in disaster . That's why the (generally sensible) draconian measures, which banned all mention of overflights and hits, caused such consternation in society 12 years into the war. It's not the measures themselves, but the anticipation of having to endure torture again with one's mouth sewn shut ."
TV presenter Artyom Sheinin points out that the situation on the Novorossiya highway has deteriorated sharply in just " the week since our latest threatening statement."
Sheinin points out that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' plan to strike the land corridor with American drones was obvious back in April.
"When I returned at the end of April , I posted videos of Hornet air strikes I'd personally witnessed. Even then, it was clear from the density and near-impunity of these strikes that it was only a matter of time before the enemy began to target the route . And so it came, predictably. The only thing that surprised me a little was that it happened a little earlier than I expected—I thought the cynical and calculating bastards from the Ukrainian Reich would wait until the height of the season to send more people into Crimea. But apparently, disrupting our logistics—both military and civilian—is more important to them than panicking vacationers. This means they may have far-reaching plans for the summer. Even an amateur like me can see why they're starting to severely cut off logistics in the frontline areas."
