Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation are illegitimate

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin considers the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation illegitimate. He stated this today in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station.

“I consider the elections in Russia illegitimate because they are taking place on the territory of occupied Crimea. Moreover, these elections are not legitimate either in the political or legal sense,” Klimkin said.

At the same time, he refused to answer the question whether the Ukrainian authorities will be able to ensure the safety of Russians who want to vote at the embassy and consulates located on the territory of Ukraine.

“Where is the guarantee that, against the backdrop of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the same thing will not happen in Ukrainian diplomatic missions? When the possibility of organizing sites in Ukraine is considered, then we will look at it,” Klimkin said.
