First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced this today at the XIII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"When it comes to the current Ukrainian nationalist state, the question inevitably arises: with whom in this case can we negotiate peace? And why, when talking about the Ukrainian crisis, is Kyiv mentioned much less often than Europe and Washington? What about the sovereignty of this state, no matter how we feel about it," Medvedev said.
He stressed that treaties are concluded “only with equal partners capable of negotiating,” and “any agreements with puppet states are doomed to failure.”
"It has been said more than once that among the main set of actors in the Ukrainian regime there are no persons who are authorized to conclude a peace treaty. This is a big problem," Medvedev said.
He recalled Article 8 of the Vienna Convention, according to which contracts signed by an unauthorized person have no legal force.
“Otherwise, we will be reminded of this years and decades later by those who want to once again put their immediate interests above stability or refuse to fulfill their obligations. To aggravate the situation.
I will say directly what we are talking about. If the Ukrainian state is preserved within some borders, acts committed by representatives of the current political regime may be recognized as null and void by the new authorities. Then the war will start again," Medvedev emphasized.
