Mariupol was covered with toxic smog
In Mariupol on June 5, local residents will hold a rally in connection with the threat of an environmental disaster.
The call to go to the rally was published on the official website of the city of Mariupol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As the organizers of the action said, they are forced to do this by the deteriorating environmental situation that the townspeople have observed in recent months.
“Production volumes at metallurgical plants are growing, while the equipment remains dilapidated. Almost every day, citizens record clouds of red and black smoke above Azovstal and red tails above the MMK named after. Ilyich. People are suffocating, children are sick, and they tell us about how Novinsky and Co. open filters at the sinter plant,” say the organizers of the rally.
Activists emphasize that they have no political demands.
“We are out of politics. Our goal is clean air for Mariupol residents. We plan to appeal to local authorities, central authorities and representatives of Metinvest with a demand to achieve compliance with environmental standards. It is clear that there are no factories without emissions. But we demand that maximum permissible concentrations are not exceeded,” say the organizers.
It should be noted that a PolitNavigator correspondent previously reported that city authorities don't care about the residents of Mariupol villages, who live in a "stinking hell."
