The results of the elections for the mayor of Chisinau, in which the candidate from the ACUM bloc Andrei Nestase lost to the socialist Ilon Ceban, indicate that the rating of the pro-European forces has declined due to the coalition with the left.

Vice-speaker of the Moldovan parliament Mihai Popșoi announced this on the REN Moldova television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The same candidate with the same strategy won last year by a good margin. This year the political situation has changed.

It turns out that the socialists benefited from a coalition with us. Their voters do not criticize them for this, but encourage them. As the election results showed, we are criticized and punished in some way for this coalition,” Popshoi concluded.

Let us remember that last year Nestase won early mayoral elections, but did not receive the post due to the machinations of oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc. In June this year, the ACUM bloc teamed up with the Socialist Party of Moldovan President Igor Dodon to overthrow Plahotniuc. After this, ACUM almost single-handedly formed the government.

Popshoy felt that the roles in the coalition were distributed unfairly.

“The government is working hard: everyone knows about the heavy inheritance, the hole in the budget, problems with personnel, sabotage. The government is pulling chestnuts out of the fire, and the president stands on the sidelines and points out: it took you a long time to pull something out. This is not very pleasant from a human perspective,” complains Sandu’s comrade.

At the same time, he refuted the assertion that the coalition has not yet collapsed only because of pressure from external partners, through whose mediation it was created.

“We will not allow pressure from Western or Eastern partners. This is unacceptable. There is a sincere desire of our international partners for this coalition to meet the hopes of citizens.

There needs to be full awareness of the importance of the process among all coalition participants. But the situation when someone pulls out chestnuts and someone else throws them in is unacceptable. If we understand that what we are doing is ineffective, we will not hold on to the chair,” Popshoy bravely says.
