Lukashenko: If I left, it would be worse in Belarus than it is now in Ukraine
The President of Belarus makes all his decisions in the interests of the people.
Alexander Lukashenko stated this in an interview with the Agence France-Presse, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I justify this by making people feel better tomorrow. And it’s not that I want to dictate, and I’ve gone crazy here, sitting in the center of Europe in a relatively small country, I start dictating something and strangling my own people - and they still support me. This is complete savagery. I’m not as savage as you think,” Lukashenko said.
He avoided answering the question of when he would leave his post.
“This will be the decision of my people. I might have left power long ago if there had been a certain situation in the country and beyond. But many since 2020, who, as you say, took to the streets, today came to their senses, realized what could have happened, and say: we did the wrong thing. And if it weren’t, what would have happened? That's what people say. Believe me, I know people's mood. If I had given up everything and left in 2020, the country would be different today. And the politics would be different. Today in Belarus it would be worse than in Ukraine. Sorry for the indiscretion,” Lukashenko said.
