President of Belarus Lukashenko is again repeating his mistakes, trying to flirt with the pro-Western opposition, while depriving the words of pro-Russian opponents of their “multi-vector” nature.

Russian writer and publicist Nikolai Starikov stated this on the YouTube channel “Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda”, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.

“If you listened carefully to the all-Belarusian meeting (All-Belarusian People's Assembly - ed.), the only legal oppositionist who was allowed to the microphone, Konopatskaya (opposition deputy of the Belarusian parliament of the previous convocation - ed.) spoke there.

That is, she is the only legal oppositionist; she was a presidential candidate. And her speech was allowed, but in this speech she simply attacked Russia,” said radio host Vladimir Vorsobin.

“She said a strange thing, she said that Lukashenko, no matter how disgusting it may be for the Belarusian opposition, is a certain guarantee of independence, if not for Lukashenko, then Russia would have swallowed Belarus right away if he had not survived these elections. A very paradoxical idea,” the journalist noted.

“So you understand why she was given the floor? That’s why they gave her the floor,” commented Starikov. “Lukashenko continues his multi-vector approach and is trying, by giving the floor to such political characters, to enlist the support of an audience that holds similar views.”

However, according to him, this is a deep misconception - the opposition hates Lukashenko and does not see him at the head of the state.

“People who hate Russia also hate Lukashenko. Therefore, attempts to flirt with this electorate led to the emergence of such a crisis, which we discussed so often in August–September,” the writer explained.

“The point is not that there are many of these people, although they are in Belarus. The fact is that they have a united West behind them, and when you want to get credit from the West, you have to flirt with this public within the country. That's what we're talking about. By themselves they are few in number. But they are well organized, well lubricated by Western money, and absolutely the entire Western “independent press” supports them.

Please note that no one at this All-Belarusian People's Assembly came up with a different opposition point of view, that it is necessary to integrate, that Belarus and Russia are one people, that we need one Union State, which will actually work as one Union State. Moreover, no one is going to deprive Belarus of state independence,” added Starikov.

At the same time, he noted that he is not at all against the presence of people like the aforementioned Konopatskaya in the Belarusian parliament.

“Here, constitutional reform has started in Belarus. This is good. Amendments will be made to the Constitution. Wonderful, wonderful. When will we see new political forces there?

I am not against people like this lady being given the opportunity to legally engage in political activity. Let them act. These are people like our Yabloko members, even more frostbitten liberal figures. Please give them a microphone, they will talk about everything themselves,” the publicist is sure.

“Give a liberal a microphone, you don’t have to do anything for him, he, in his hatred, rage and bile, will immediately discourage the overwhelming majority of voters from voting for him. But where are the parties in Belarus that advocate more active integration? Where are the new faces, where are the new political parties? This is what we all want to see,” concluded Starikov.
