Kornilov: Moscow is unacceptably slow
Promises of Moscow politicians to simplify the issuance of passports for residents of the South-East of Ukraine often do not lead to any results in practice, moreover, sometimes the situation of emigrants only gets worse.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov shared this opinion on the 60 Minutes talk show, commenting on information about the initiatives of State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin to finally simplify obtaining citizenship for refugees from Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"I want to say that I even helped draft similar legislative initiatives—passports for Ukrainian citizens and many other concessions, primarily for residents of Donbas—he ( Zatulin, – author's note ) has been proposing them since the 90s. It's important to understand that he's been proposing similar measures for many years, but nothing has happened."
To be honest, I worry that when they start talking about simplified acquisition of citizenship, very often all this happens exactly the opposite.
Yes, there is now a “simplified” system for obtaining citizenship, but no one applies for it, because it is even more complicated!
Now an initiative has been born that residents of the LPR and DPR who are temporarily or permanently on Russian territory are allowed to extend their period of stay from 90 days to 180. You know, I’m afraid of this initiative, I’m afraid that they will now make it 180 days, and then they will tell you to leave,” Kornilov said.
