The Russian Federation is ready to use any forces, including the Baltic Fleet, to protect the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, part of which runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin announced this at a press conference following a meeting between the Polish and Ukrainian foreign ministers, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia has the Black Sea Fleet and the Baltic Fleet. They are led by the same people from the Kremlin for whom there are no red lines. If they are able to use more than ten ships and their entire military machine against two Ukrainian armored boats and one tugboat, imagine what they are able to use in the Baltic Sea to protect Nord Stream 2. And they will definitely do it. Therefore, protecting Ukraine from acts of Russian aggression in the Black Sea is protection from further acts of Russian aggression in all seas,” Klimkin said.
As a reminder, on November 25, two small armored artillery boats, the Berdyansk and Nikopol, and the tugboat Yany Kapu attempted to transit the Kerch Strait, which is closed to Russia. After repeated warnings from Russian border guards about violating the Russian border, the tugboat was rammed by the Russian patrol ship Don.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian vessels and crew, which had violated the Russian state border, were captured by Russian special forces.
