Klimkin told how the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry uses Mejlis members in Crimea
Ukraine uses members and supporters of the extremist Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation in Crimea as its unofficial diplomats.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated this on the talk show "Right to Power," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the minister, Kyiv cannot send consular employees of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Crimea, even those who work in Moscow, because this would mean recognition of the Russian status of the peninsula.
"We don't have consular services in the occupied territories. Everything we're doing now, all this organization, is conducted through the Mejlis, specifically through Akhtem Chiygoz. Representatives (of the Foreign Ministry – author ) cannot visit the occupied territory, because if we do, it would be a visible admission, and Russia will immediately make it all clear. That's why we work precisely through the Mejlis and our friends there," Klimkin stated.
As a reminder, Mejlis members previously organized a collection of money and items for Ukrainian sailors detained by the FSB.
