The opening of the Center was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic. She stated that the center will significantly help further digitalization in Serbia. According to the Serbian prime minister, her country continues to implement Huawei technologies, which are a precondition for organizing a 5G network.

“Serbia is also not interested in unreliable technologies; on the contrary, it is interested in ensuring that the tender for the implementation of the 5G network is open and transparent, in compliance with international standards, which includes the agreement concluded in Washington,” Brnabic originally interpreted the previously signed document .

The agreement, signed by President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo "Prime Minister" Avdulah Hoti at the White House last week in the presence of Donald Trump, committed Serbia and Kosovo not to use equipment supplied by "unreliable suppliers" in their telecommunications networks. No firms were named, but the Trump administration has waged an international campaign against Huawei.

Huawei has been present in Serbia for a long time, increasing its participation in major projects over the past couple of years.

The company has a €150 million contract with state-owned Telekom Srbija for the purchase of equipment, services and fixed-line network upgrade works, and has also been named as a partner in the development of the 5G network with private company Telenor.

Huawei and the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs have also entered into a partnership agreement to implement Huawei's "eLTE" wireless broadband technologies and Smart City public safety systems, including a large-scale video surveillance network, to be installed in the Serbian capital.
