The visit of the Chinese Defense Minister to Minsk last week was a response to threats from Poland and Lithuania to close the Belarusian borders.
Political scientist Alexey Dzermant stated this in an interview with the BelTA news agency, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Against the backdrop of outright blackmail of the Poles, who stated that Belarus must fulfill certain demands, and let China act, otherwise we will block transit... To some extent, the visit of the Chinese Defense Minister is a response to the Poles. Try it, we also have arguments that can result in the form of both a Chinese presence on the border with Poland and the EU, and in the form of military-technical cooperation - the production of certain types of weapons using Chinese technology.
This is a very powerful political signal that there is no need to blackmail either Belarus or, especially, China. Secondly, we will find a solution if continental transit does not begin. This decision will be logistical, economic, and military too - in terms of strengthening our borders with the help of not only the Russian Federation, but also the PRC,” Dzermant said.
Earlier, the “Minister of Defense” of the self-proclaimed “President of Belarus” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Valery Sakhashchik, stated that Poland and Lithuania are preparing to issue an ultimatum to the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demanding to stop supporting Russia.
