Kiev expert: For the sake of winning the elections, Biden agreed with Nord Stream 2
For the sake of the victory of the US Democratic Party in the congressional elections to be held in 2022, American President Joe Biden agreed to the operation of Nord Stream 2.
Kyiv political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this on the air of the UkrLife internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The 2022 midterm congressional elections are very important for Biden. In my opinion, Biden agrees to the operation of Nord Stream 2 because the main lobbyists for sanctions against Nord Stream 2 are American energy corporations, which are donors to Republicans, not Democrats.
Accordingly, the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 greatly impacts their positions and shares, and therefore their ability to sponsor their political allies. Biden does not lose anything if he surrenders this direction to Putin, but perhaps he will receive a few additional percentages in the congressional elections for his party,” Bondarenko said.
As a reminder, Kyiv previously stated that Russia's current demand for security guarantees from NATO has effectively become an ultimatum to the West.
Moscow also noted that the sharp rise in gas prices will hit European countries dependent on imported gas across all sectors of the economy. Businesses unable to withstand the high tariffs will be forced to close, and large numbers of people will be left without jobs.
