A Belarusian delegation of "svyadomy" members who participated in a conference in Kiev organized by the Ukrainian nationalist party "Svoboda" dedicated to the joint struggle of Ukraine and Belarus against Russia were detained by Belarusian border guards on the way back.
The reason for the arrest was a brochure found in the car with the program of the “Bandera Readings” held in the Kyiv City Council , which were also organized by Svoboda.
“Belarusian border guards detained a car with representatives of the opposition Lukashenko solidarity movement “Together” - the chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party Grigory Kastusev, the famous Belarusian historian and political scientist Igor Lyalkov and three coordinators of the movement.
On Friday, February 7, all of them took part in the International expert discussion “Hybrid War of the Russian Federation against Belarus” (organized by “Together” and “Freedom”). And yesterday we attended the VII Bandera Readings - and went home through the customs post “Novye Yarilovichi Novaya Guta” in the Chernigov region. They were detained there. They took the documents, took the car, searched it for 3:00 until they found a brochure of Bandera’s readings.
The official reason for the arrest was the brochure—as if it were “extremist literature.” Although, I emphasize, she was found only AFTER her arrest. The real reason is the participation of the detainees in an expert discussion, where the topic of the creeping occupation of Belarus by Muscovy was discussed,” the head of Svoboda Oleg Tyagnibok said on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now the brochure has been sent for “examination”... What will happen next is unknown. Therefore, I demand immediate intervention from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine! ...If Belarus falls under the Russian Federation, Ukraine’s independence will become a matter of time,” Tyagnibok warned.
The report of the detention was confirmed by Alena Tolstaya, co-chair of the “Together” movement.
“The car was driven into a box, the delegation was detained and taken away in an unknown direction. The formal occasion was a brochure - a program for Bandera’s readings,” wrote the “svyadomaya”.
