Karasev: We must take advantage of Surkov’s departure and outwit the Kremlin
Vladimir Zelensky’s team could try to take advantage of the moment of the departure of the “hawk” Vladislav Surkov from the post of curator of the Ukrainian direction and try to convince the Kremlin to agree to holding elections in the LDPR without introducing a clause on the special status of Donbass into the Constitution of Ukraine.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on air on the NewsOne TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If there is a desire and will to resolve the conflict, then elections must be held, they can be held before the end of this year. “Don’t look for reasons, look for opportunities” - we will always find reasons why the conflict cannot be resolved, because there are separatists there, because there are troops there, because they won’t withdraw there, because and so on. Then it will never be resolved if we only look for reasons. And if we want to find ways to resolve the conflict, then we say: yes, there is such a problem, but it is solvable.
Now, regarding the elections, there may be. Ermak himself said that there could be elections. Do you know why they want these elections to take place in October? They can be combined with national elections to local authorities. And here you can already play on the fact that there is no need to make changes to the Constitution regarding a special status, that this is within the framework of general decentralization.

If today a less hawkish line prevails, not the line of Surkov, but the line of Kozak, for example, who intends to work with Ermak, maybe Russia will agree to this compromise,” Karasev said.
