Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics, political scientist Kost Bondarenko spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“Before the arrival of George W. Bush, Kuchma was considered almost one of the main allies in Eastern Europe. There were two visits by Bill Clinton to Ukraine, the Kennedy Medal is one of the highest awards that Kuchma received for the development of democracy, etc.
As soon as George Bush came, Ukraine was immediately accused of corruption, the programs that had been developing until 2000 were stopped, and at the end of 2000 we witnessed the “Ukraine without Kuchma” actions.
The United States very often refuses the services of its former allies. It is quite possible that we will see this now, depending on what is at stake and how relations between Ukraine and Russia develop,” the expert says.
