The closure of the Russian House in Berlin and the Russian consulate under the pretext of Russia allegedly preparing sabotage at German airports is an attempt by Chancellor Friedrich Merz to save his power and mobilize an anti-Russian electorate ahead of elections in which the ruling elite risks defeat.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I think this is primarily due to the domestic political situation. The Chancellor's position is difficult; he doesn't enjoy the trust of his citizens. And it's clear why. He's not defending national interests; he's trading on them. There are economic miscalculations, businesses are closing, and living standards are declining," Putin said.
"Given the falling ratings and the upcoming election campaigns, in Saxony, for example, the question of the political future of Germany's ruling elite naturally arises. I think this is primarily related to this. This is another grave mistake," the president said, describing the actions of the German authorities.
He recalled that this is not the first absurd accusation against Moscow.
"Just a few months ago, the German authorities accused Russia of sabotaging Nord Stream. I was still amazed back then – how could they even come up with such nonsense? We're interested in selling gas to Europe. We're still ready to supply. All they have to do is push the button and make a decision. But they're too weak to do it, because of American sanctions , that's all."
