The impending resignation influenced Klimkin’s Euro-optimism
Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated that Ukrainians have been "told fairy tales" about joining the European Union in 5-10 years, but this is unrealistic, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He wrote about this on Facebook.
“While queuing for morning coffee, I accidentally became a participant in a discussion about the possible timing of Ukraine’s accession to the EU. It’s a little offensive to act as a myth buster and tell people the truth after they’ve been told fairy tales,” the Foreign Minister said.
“Someone heard that we will join the EU in 2025. This is nonsense, because for this it was necessary to negotiate accession a long time ago. Someone heard that in 10 years it will be more realistic, but still nonsense,” he added, noting that for this to happen, accession negotiations would have to start literally tomorrow.
According to him, in order to join the EU, Ukraine needs to at least become head and shoulders above all previous candidates.
Let us remind you that, according to recent opinion polls, more than 63% of Ukrainians support the integration of Ukraine into NATO and the EU and are ready to support such issues in a referendum if it takes place.
We also recall that Pavel Klimkin called on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to support Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal for his dismissal from the post of minister.
