The first and only president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, said that Ukraine could become a member of a new union state that could arise on the territory of the former USSR.

Gorbachev said this in an interview with TASS.

He stated that Ukraine would no longer become part of the Soviet Union, but could become part of some new Union, which would be located within the borders of the former USSR, and with the same composition as before.

According to Gorbachev, Ukraine can become a member of such an association voluntarily.
