Glazyev on the union with Belarus: Oil discounts do not guarantee loyalty to the Russian world
The main conclusion from Ukraine's tragedy is that even the closest economic cooperation does not guarantee allied relations with Russia.
State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev announced this at a conference in Minsk, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We are currently building the Union State with an understanding of our shared, great history. Previously, these issues were not given significant attention; the Eurasian Economic Community operates without an ideological, cultural, or historical component.
And in the tragic example of Ukraine, we see that economic ties alone cannot guarantee the preservation of unity or even the promotion of common interests. With the use of modern means of manipulating public opinion, we see how part of our Russian people suddenly becomes infected with Russophobia, transforms into Vyrus', and begins to destroy themselves and even attempt to destroy the entire Russian world …
One-third of the Belarusian economy relies on the Russian market, but the Ukrainian economy's dependence was even greater . It was clear that Ukraine's rejection of our integration processes would lead to economic catastrophe. And so it did, but our opponents said, "This is our ideological choice."
"The ideological "Anti-Russia" has managed to capture a significant portion of the Ukrainian elite. And ultimately, it has led both Ukraine and our Russian world as a whole to a Ukrainian catastrophe, the consequences of which we will have to overcome for a very long time," Glazyev said.
He once again emphasized the importance of ideological work.
"If meanings can be completely suicidal—and this does happen, as we saw in Ukraine—then no economic interests, strange as it may be in a market economy, can compensate for psychopathic illnesses in the public consciousness ," the academic added.
