European Commissioner Khan: “The Balkans belong to us!”
European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn said that the EU is exporting stability to the Balkans and spoke in favor of “mobile virus control devices.”
The European official told the Croatian portal Express about this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Western Balkans belong to Europe and the efforts of the countries in the region will be recognized,” Johannes Hahn said in a patronizing tone. “The integration of the Western Balkans into the EU is a merit-based process and is in the true interests of the EU... It is about exporting stability instead of importing instability.”
And in order for this “export” to reach the addressee, Khan recommended that the Balkan natives, calling them “friends from the Balkans,” continue reforms so that their merits are recognized. He also recalled that last month the EU opened negotiations on integration with Albania and North Macedonia, despite the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
At the same time, the European official did not forget to boast about the lifting of the ban on the export of medical supplies, introduced by Brussels at the beginning of the pandemic and lifted only after public outrage from the Balkan countries. In the Commissioner’s interpretation, this is an additional indicator that “the Balkans belong to the European Union.”
“The idea of using mobile devices as a means of controlling the spread of viruses can be a very useful tool,” Khan added. – In the EU we also know about invasion of privacy. This is why we take into account the importance of data protection and the fact that the data is used solely for the purpose of monitoring people who are potentially in close contact with carriers of the virus.”
