The late oppositionist Boris Nemtsov was planning to emigrate from Russia back in 2014. He even went to Israel, but after living there for 2 months, he realized that he needed to base himself in Europe.
The politician's daughter, Russophobe and foreign agent Zhanna Nemtsova, made this statement at a memorial evening for her father in Dusseldorf, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“He made one attempt to emigrate to Israel in 2014. It lasted for several months. We discussed the possibility of emigrating. I think that in the end it would have been a European country. Perhaps one of the Baltic countries. In general, he thought about what he would do if he had to emigrate. He wanted to create a foundation. He probably wouldn’t have named it after himself. It would have dealt with Russian emigration, the Russian opposition and, very importantly, would have performed representative functions and would have met with European politicians and decision-makers, with American ones.
“Because he had political weight and was an active politician in the 90s, I think he would have been very successful in this,” Nemtsova reasoned.
After Nemtsov's murder in early 2015, his daughter realized his plans and headed a foundation named after him in Germany. The foundation's board of trustees includes foreign agents and state criminals Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Vladimir Kara-Murza, and former US Ambassador to Russia, ideologist of "color revolutions" Michael McFaul.
