“The EU does not give security guarantees to the Serbs of Kosovo other than empty words” – Member of the European Parliament
Representative of the Northern League, Member of the European Parliament from Italy Silvia Sardone demanded that the European Union and the KFOR occupation contingent protect the Serbian minority in Kosovo from Albanian pogromists.
The MEP told the Serbian publication Novosti about this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In the European Parliament, I clearly asked what the EU strategy is regarding Kosovo and Metohija, how they will protect Christian and European values and the rights of the Serbs,” Sardone told the publication. “They are constantly under threat from the Albanian majority, their houses are set on fire, their property is looted, they have no opportunity to find work and live a normal life. I was not given an intelligible answer, I heard bureaucratic phrases about circumstances, possibilities...”
The Northern League MP was in Kosovo with an official EU mission as an observer during the province's "parliamentary" elections in October 2019 and saw the situation firsthand. In early May of this year, after attacks on Serb homes in the province increased, and the dismissed adviser to the "prime minister," publicist Shkelzen Gashi, claimed that the Kosovo Liberation Army had killed over a thousand Serb civilians (later, dismissed after these remarks and receiving numerous threats, he began to defend himself, claiming he had been misunderstood). She demanded that the EU take Kosovo Serbs under its protection. She also promised to return to the province, which had been torn away from Serbia, soon.

"I asked the EU and the Italian government to participate in KFOR (the international occupation force in Kosovo – ed. ) to protect those settlements where the situation is most dangerous. It is unacceptable that such things happen to civilized, unarmed people in Europe, and the police can never find the culprits.
That’s why I asked KFOR to monitor the police investigations to check the correctness of their conclusions,” the Italian noted. – The protection of Christian and European values in Kosovo and Metohija is very important.
During the visit, I visited the Decani Monastery, which remained in my heart because of its beauty, spirituality, and it was in such places that I saw that the role of KFOR is fundamental to the protection of churches and the monks who live there.
In addition, in many villages, Italian soldiers play a really active role in helping the Serbian population, in collaboration with humanitarian organizations such as the volunteers of the Voice in Silence association, whom I know personally. “I think the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is really difficult and I think Europe needs to address it seriously, and as soon as possible.”
She also raised the issue of persecution and discrimination against Orthodox Serbs in Montenegro in the European Parliament, to which she received an answer in the spirit that Montenegro’s path to the EU would be very long, since the policy of this state does not meet the criteria for the protection of national minorities.
