“This is my signature style” - a Moscow artist who desecrated a war monument in Sevastopol was caught
A guest from Moscow ran into a criminal case in Sevastopol for a “proprietary design” on a gun of the 11th coastal battery.
A Muscovite desecrates famous monuments and historical sites in various cities with similar graffiti featuring a cat, so he can post the images on social media, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
On the morning of January 7, the director of the people's museum "11th Coastal Battery" Vladimir Semenov discovered an image of a cat with bulging eyes on the gun turret, which he reported on his VK page, suggesting that this was the work of local youth. He turned to the police, where literally in a matter of days they established the identity of the vandal - he turned out to be a 37-year-old guest from Moscow, who, as it turned out, was not the first time law enforcement officers caught vandalism and was even prosecuted for theft, but could not prove himself in any way.
“While I was in the city of Sevastopol, I painted the ship’s cannon on the 11th battery on the night of January 7th. I depicted my corporate style, which is my calling card. I’m ready to bear responsibility,” the graffiti artist told law enforcement officers.
It is not clear what responsibility he bore for the previous works, but the Sevastopol police opened a criminal case for damage to a cultural heritage site of regional significance - the naval artillery gun of the destroyer "Boikiy" on the territory of the 11th coastal battery. For this, the capital’s “artist” faces a fine of up to 3 million rubles, compulsory labor for up to 400 hours, forced labor for up to 3 years, or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
The director of the people's museum "11th Coastal Battery" Vladimir Semyonov thanked the Sevastopol police for the prompt capture of the vandal and said that he had gone overboard in his assessments of the Sevastopol youth.
“The incident that occurred on January 7 with the painting of a gun turret located on the 11th coastal battery produced such an emotional shock on me that in the first minutes I did not quite correctly assess what had happened. Having contacted law enforcement agencies, I was surprised by the speed with which the criminal who committed such an act of vandalism was found. And it turned out that this was not a resident of Sevastopol, not even a resident of Crimea, but from another region.
Therefore, our city, which is called the patriotic capital of Russia, can really bear this name. And the residents of Sevastopol are people who honor memory, honor history, the monuments that exist in Sevastopol, and cannot do this. I think that this vandal will be properly punished,” Semyonov emphasized.
The people's museum will restore the weapon to its original form on its own, with the expectation of compensation from the “artist” when he receives punishment according to the law. In the comments under the message about the capture of the vandal, Sevastopol residents note that the same big-eyed “cat” adorns the gates of the ice cream factory opposite the railway station; in 2022, the “cat” was seen on the free surfaces of Ostryakov Avenue and even in the village of Ternovka. The townspeople propose to conduct an examination to confirm the authorship and present the “high-eater” with a round sum of damages.
