This is karma: the trident welded to the shield of the Kyiv “Motherland” falls off due to a violation of technology
The Ukrainian small coat of arms - a trident - was welded to the shield of the Soviet monument “Motherland” towering above the banks of the Dnieper without the consent of the Paton Institute.
As Igor Krivtsun, the Institute's director, told the Ukrainian publication Liga, there is a risk that the welds could be damaged by corrosion and the coat of arms could fall off the shield.
According to the physicist, welding work should have been carried out using technology developed by the Institute’s specialists.
“We welded the trident, but no one contacted us. But the problem is that where they welded, there is wind, there is no protection, and all these seams are at risk - they are already yellow, although it is stainless steel,” complained the director of the Paton Institute.
According to Krivtsun, they tried to get approval from the Institute after the welding work. However, the Electric Welding Institute did not give its conclusion.
“I say no, guys, you worked, you answer. And recently we examined the monument with drones and saw that there was already corrosion there,” the director noted.
Let us recall that the welding of the trident to the shield of the monument was preceded by a public scandal caused by the plans of propagandists from the Institute of National Remembrance to finally decommunize the monument, installed in 1981 and which has become one of the calling cards of Kyiv.
Many Kyiv residents, public figures, historians and architects were outraged by such plans, noting the inappropriateness of such an element as a trident on a monument from another era , carrying a completely different ideological meaning and load.
There were also voices that such events in the midst of war were unnecessary and expensive – the decommunization of the monument cost the budget 28 million hryvnia.
But ultimately, stupidity and greed prevailed, and on July 30, 2023 , the hammer and sickle, which had hung there for almost 40 years, were finally removed from the shield of the Motherland Monument , replacing them with the small coat of arms of Ukraine. It was welded to the shield on August 6 of last year, and the work was completed in time for Ukraine's Independence Day.
Now it turns out that everything may be in vain.
