Expert explains why Iran did not save the Assad regime
Unlike Iran, Russia lost virtually nothing from the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.
This was stated on air by the military correspondent from Odessa, Oleg Blokhin, who worked extensively in Syria, on the air of the “Day Center” channel, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
"The Iranians interfered [in our affairs in Syria], and they saw us as serious competitors. And simply under the influence of the Mukhabarat, the leadership of the Mukhabarat was simply bought off, and we immediately became enemies.
"And Iran didn't protect Assad because it realized a conspiracy was brewing within Assad's inner circle . Once again, Iran realized they had gone too far, that they weren't liked," the military correspondent said.
Moreover, he stressed that Iran would not have been able to cope without Russia’s help.
"And secondly, Iran realized that it will not be able to pull through the situation without us. When Iran participated, they said that they could have managed without us. Although in reality, if we had not given them weapons, including military resources, if not for our aviation, what would the Iranians have done there?
Iran couldn't have pulled through this situation. And they understood it perfectly well . They had something to lose. What they say our people lost? No, Iran lost it. Iran lost colossal amounts of money there.
And now they are in such a deep trance, we didn't invest there, our asset is our two bases. Our business didn't earn there, nothing, well, there were no serious investments. The one that worked, it was seriously in the minus, really in the minus.
That's why we didn't lose anything there. You know, it's an enterprise that you have to sell and pay extra to get it taken over.
"We didn't lose a damn thing there. If you remove the population that remains there and that will fall under repression, we didn't lose anything there, absolutely. But the Iranians lost a lot," he summed up.
