«On the death of Mikhail Chechetov Criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 115 of the Criminal Code - premeditated murder, as is always done in such cases in order to check all possible versions.
Judging by the testimony of Mikhail Chechetov’s wife, I have no doubt that it was suicide,” the people’s deputy said on his Facebook page.
“There is only one point about whether he was driven to suicide by threats at a meeting or by telephone, persons against whom he could testify. This will also be checked in detail by the investigation,” Gerashchenko wrote.
“Naturally, today social networks will be filled with versions that killers entered Chechetov’s apartment at night, dragged him out of bed without waking his wife, and threw him out of the window. But this version has no basis.
Let's be honest, Mikhail Chechetov has never been an example of perseverance and courage.
In 2005, at the very first interrogation at the prosecutor’s office, he handed over the illegal scheme for the privatization of Krivorozhstal to Kuchma, who gave direct instructions to sell it to Akhmetov-Pinchuk at a reduced price.
Then, under President Yushchenko and Prosecutor General Piskun, he was excused from criminal liability.
And now Mikhail Chechetov apparently realized that he had no chance of escaping punishment and getting away with it; he didn’t want to sit in a colony at his age with his illnesses.
It’s a pity that now we won’t learn many interesting things from the possible testimony of Mikhail Chechetov,” Gerashchenko emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, Anton Gerashchenko said that “judging by an interview with his wife and other people who saw him the day before, he was in deep depression after the start of criminal proceedings on suspicion of abuse of his official position during the “manual” voting on January 16, 2014”. In addition, the Prosecutor General's Office announced preparations to bring other charges against Chechetov.
