Ex-Colonel of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Holding Chasov Yar is more important than Volchansk
If the Russians take Chasov Yar, then a threat will loom over the entire territory of the DPR controlled by Kyiv.
This was stated on the NTA television channel by former colonel of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military expert Oleg Zhdanov , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" Chasov Yar is more important than Vovchansk because the Kharkiv direction is more of a distraction. Even our Western partners from the Institute for the Study of War and other analysts who wrote that this is a buffer zone, preparing a bridgehead for a march on Kharkiv —they haven't even connected the two bridgeheads . They're keeping us on edge, preventing us from withdrawing troops from there and redeploying them to the eastern direction."
" Chasov Yar is the key to the last major residential agglomeration in Donbas, Kramatorsk-Slovyansk. And unlike Bakhmut, Chasov Yar has operational significance," Zhdanov reasoned.
According to him, the surrender of Chasov Yar threatens the retention of the territories of the former Donetsk region within its administrative borders.
" Kramatorsk-Slovyansk could crumble... and Seversk, and Liman . That's why there are so many of them. Today, they believe the weakest point is the southern flank of the Kramatorsk operational direction, and therefore Kleshcheyevka, and therefore Ivanovka. They're trying to break through along the highway to Konstantinovka and enter the city from the south ," the expert worried.
