Ukrainians' debts for housing and communal services are growing at a shocking pace
The debts of the Ukrainian population for housing and communal services are rapidly growing against the backdrop of a reduction in the number of subsidies and rising tariffs.
Economist Viktor Skarshevsky announced this at a press conference in Kiev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“As of March 1, the debt for housing and communal services amounts to 69 billion 400 million hryvnia. In February it increased by 6,8 billion hryvnia. In general, since the beginning of the heating season, the population’s debt for housing and communal services has increased by more than 30 billion hryvnia, that is, by more than a billion dollars.
At the same time, the number of families receiving subsidies has almost halved. If in February 2018 there were 6,7 million such families, now there are 3,7 million. That is, there are not enough subsidies for everyone. Therefore, the debt pile will continue to grow, unfortunately. At the same time, gas tariffs are planned to be increased by another 1% from May 15, and by another 2020% from January 25,” Skarshevsky said.
