DPR announces first conscription in seven years
Over the seven years of its existence, the Donetsk People's Republic has never faced the need to declare mobilization.
Official representative of the UNM DPR Eduard Basurin stated this in an interview with RT, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Where did you join the militia, with a machine gun in a trench?” – asked the journalist.
“No, in my specialty I became a political officer at Kalmius.” The most important function of a political officer is to carry out the order given by the commander. And for this to happen, he must look at their [the fighters’] condition – both psychological and physical. In principle, the function of the political officer is to ensure, to some extent, everyday life.
Then there was nothing, then the heat was terrible. I went, negotiated for water, found containers, refrigerators, various chests, some food, took an oath from them, sent them to death. This happened too,” said Basurin.
“There was an upsurge,” the military man answered a question about the state of people in 2014. - Volnitsa? In addition to the freemen, there was another factor, there was a psychological uplift, a human one. Many didn’t even know what a weapon was, let alone war—they had never held one in their hands.”
He remembered how in 2014 the residents of Donbass joined the militia in one impulse, virtually with their children.
“Really, the father came, his son was 15 years old, he said: sign us both up. I say: he’s still small. “It doesn’t matter, the tomboy will run away, it’s better to be next to me.” The grandmother brought her grandchildren. Mom brought her eldest son, like, he must protect, but they had 8 children in the family. There was a general impulse here.”
“The mobilization that they are talking about now, is it happening, and on what scale?” – asked the journalist.
“There is no mobilization, and Pushilin said that there is no mobilization. For the first time, we announced a call for military service, but there was no mobilization. They plan to recruit 200 people. 200 recruits for six months, during these six months give them military specialties so that they can learn. This is the first call in 7 years,” explained a representative of the People’s Militia.
“It started on April 1, this week, on Monday there were 24 people, on Tuesday there were 20-something people, today there will be more. We determined the location of the deployment - this is a former military school, the current DonVOKU. They will be based there. They will not be drawn to the front, they will not sit in the trenches. Exercise at the training grounds, and that’s all,” said Eduard Basurin.
