Children under Ukrainian shelling: Eyewitness accounts
A PolitNavigator correspondent managed to speak with children who recounted details of the Ukrainian armed forces' shelling of a school bus yesterday.
Let us recall that as a result of the operation to rescue children, one DPR army serviceman was killed.
Thus, sixth-grader Marina said that on that day the situation in the village was normal, and nothing indicated that shelling could begin.
“We were driving, there were no signs of trouble. Then, when we had already arrived, the shelling began, I saw many military men, our leader. They all told us to quickly get off the bus and stand under the library, because the battle had started,” said the schoolgirl.
“The teacher always tells us that we arrive at the wrong time,” the girl noted.
Marina said that as soon as they arrived and went to hide under the library, the bus immediately left.
“Then the fight seemed to have died down, and we were told to quickly go to the store and stay away from the glass. There we waited for the end of the battle.”
The schoolgirl noted that the safety of the children was monitored by military personnel of the DPR army and personally by the head of the village.
“The shelling began in broad daylight. We saw a children's bus coming from around the corner, taking children from classes (the children study on the territory of Nikitovka). We realized that the children themselves would not be able to get off the bus calmly, so we literally had to hide them behind the building by the scruff of the neck. Of course, we ourselves were also scared, but the realization came a little later.”
An eyewitness to the events notes that this is not the first shelling of a school bus by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
