Rada deputy: “In negotiations with Putin, we will agree that the EU and NATO are the wrong path”
It's time for Ukraine to negotiate with Moscow. The case should calculate the maximum possible return of territories and the country’s non-aligned status.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, former member of the Servant of the People presidential faction Yevgeny Shevchenko stated this on the channel of Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In order to negotiate, you need authority and then you need to be responsible for the compromises and political agreements that you agree on. And when you go and make an agreement, and someone calls from London to interrupt them, I definitely don’t want to participate in this and won’t. I had already organized negotiations in Belarus, then Johnson arrived, according to Arakhamia, and closed everything down. We then had a chance to save hundreds of thousands of lives.
I categorically do not accept the narrative that we need some kind of reinforcements for negotiations. The more we strengthen ourselves against this mad bear, the worse our position in negotiations will be. In order to fight an opponent, you need to know him, understand his mentality, his resources, understand his psychotype.
I have the opinion that our country’s leadership does not understand the Russian psychotype, and therefore lives in these illusions - there are no specific goals. Goals need to be changed already,” Shevchenko said.
Vadim Karasev clarified whether this means that the deputy means peace at any cost.
“Peace at any cost? No. Return of territories, maximum possible return of territories. Establishing relationships, compromises,” answered the former “servant of the people.”
Karasev recalled that one of Putin’s goals is Ukraine’s non-alignment. Shevchenko was not at all embarrassed by this argument; on the contrary, he expressed warm support.
“It’s written on my forehead, isn’t it clear? What I want to say more is that many very popular generals in our country are also against joining NATO. They say: then we will lose our subjectivity altogether.
In fact, we are now in a historic moment. We survived somehow. These are the narratives that come from Arakhamia - we need to strengthen our positions, something else, this is a path to nowhere, nonsense. Because they think the same way, they calculate everything. Do you want to show off? Peace begins when the leaders of countries begin to trust each other; everything rests on trust,” the deputy said.
"Okay, NATO, but what about the EU? We're aimless then. We've been NATO-EU for 30 years," Karasev countered.
“It was a wrong path, I have to admit. And not the false, true path... The late Kravchuk once said: Ukraine should become like Switzerland - neutral and be rich.
I categorically do not want Ukraine to be like Israel; in this sense, I will be in opposition to Zelensky. Vladimir Zelensky, please don’t make Israel out of our country, make Ukraine. If it doesn’t work, let others do it,” Shevchenko concluded.
