“The EU and the Russian Federation have agreed on the transit of goods to Kaliningrad. As high-ranking sources on the Russian side told Izvestia, Brussels provided a document that “fully satisfied” Moscow. There, in particular, it is stated that the movement of goods between parts of the Russian Federation cannot be limited. According to the interlocutors, this measure may be separately prescribed in the upcoming seventh package of sanctions,” the publication notes.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, at the beginning of July the EU presented the Russian Federation with a draft document to allow transit of the Kaliningrad region.

“This document says that it is impossible to restrict the movement of goods between the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, that is, all goods going to the region will be removed as an exception from the sanctions lists. We are talking about both railway and road transit,” the source said.

He says that “the final document has been being agreed upon between Brussels and Vilnius for several weeks now.” True, if at the beginning of the article it is stated that “the EU and the Russian Federation have agreed on the transit of goods to Kaliningrad,” then later in the publication everything looks far from so clear.

“Lithuania does not want to agree to the compromise proposed by the EU. In many ways, Vilnius’s position is determined by the United States, which puts pressure on it. The issue is now under consideration by the Lithuanian side,” added the newspaper’s interlocutor.

At the same time, Kyiv is confident that Lithuania will not cave in on the issue of the Kaliningrad blockade.
