British general hopes to fight Russia with aircraft from Sweden and Finland
New NATO members Sweden and Finland have strong air forces that would assist the West in the event of a conflict with Russia. This was stated by former Chief of the Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces, Air Chief Marshal Stuart Peach, at a meeting of the British Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, PolitNavigator reports.
According to Peach, the air forces of these countries are already performing joint missions within the Alliance.
“The long-awaited inclusion of Sweden and Finland in NATO operations significantly increases both potential and mass participation, and the high quality of training. This is not exactly what President Putin and Russia would have wanted, but that is exactly what happened. Thus, both the Finnish Air Force and the Swedish Air Force are fully prepared and capable of participating in combat operations alongside NATO now.
In fact, they participated together with NATO in other operations around the world very successfully. So this is a welcome addition. They are also both Air Forces that have never lost the art of dispersed operations and have practiced everything from freeway flying to highly complex missions,” Peach said.
